Downsville was founded in 1851. It is a small community of about 180. It offers great recreational opportunities (The Red Cedar State Trail has a trailhead and parking location in downtown Downsville) and a number of restaurants and other small businesses. The Creamery Restaurant and Inn offers fine dining, and several other small restaurants and taverns cater to informal dining.
