The Chippewa Guide is your new web directory for the Chippewa Valley of Wisconsin. We have a business directory (and you can add your own businesses, reviews, and comments), job listings, local classified ads, sports, news, local bloggers, an events calendar, and a growing list of other services. Let us know what else we can do for you!

New Sports Page
Submitted by Steve Hanson on Mon, 12/31/2007 - 17:27We now have a page for Sports news . We're working on new kinds of sports content for the page, and hope to shortly offer you calendars for the local high-school teams, etc. right on the web site.
If you'd like to see something added to our sports page, please let us know.

Add Your Own Events!
Submitted by Steve Hanson on Sat, 12/29/2007 - 12:15Does your organization or business sponsor events in the Chippewa Valley? Are you a local musician? We can help promote you. We have a free on-line calendar of events, and you can add your own events to it for free. Just click on the Add an Event link at the top of the page, and fill out the form. You don't even have to register to add an event.
Your event will appear in our calendar within about 48 hours of when you post it. You can list whatever information you want about the event.
Note that we reserve the right to not publish any events that we feel are not in keeping with the Chippewa Guide mission, but we normally publish almost all events that are submitted.
New!
We've just made adding events simpler- There is a pre-filled list of venues in the entry page - just click on the right venue and all the information will be filled in automatically. If you'd like to have your venue listed in the Chippewa Guide, just fill out this form!

Write for the Chippewa Guide
Submitted by Steve Hanson on Sun, 11/25/2007 - 11:52We're looking for people who are interested in contributing to the Chippewa Guide. Have a hankering to write and inform people in the valley? Have a special talent or interest? Do you like to go out to movies and restaurants, and you want to tell people about what you've discovered?
The Chippewa Guide is intended to be a web community. You can help build a web community in the Chippewa Valley by writing on the Guide. It's easy and fun. It's also (at the moment) not paid. We'll have an occasional get-together, and perhaps we'll be able to slip you some free tickets, etc. from time to time. But I'm afraid that's about it. So the writing will have to be its own reward.

Search The Valley!
Submitted by Steve Hanson on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 14:40So -do you ever go crazy using search engines? You want to find out some local information, but when you ask for the info, you get a gazillion items that have nothing to do with you?
That won't happen any more. We've created the Chippewa Valley search engine. If you're looking for something in the Chippewa Valley, just use the Search The Valley! search box at the top left. It only searches the local web sites, giving you a much narrower view of what you're looking for.
We're slowly adding sites to the search engine. Soon we will have a way for you to add sites that you want added to the search engine - look back in a couple days.

The Local Shop Project
Submitted by Steve Hanson on Wed, 10/31/2007 - 10:38The Chippewa Guide is interested in promoting local businesses. We are starting the Local Shop project on the site to help with this. The idea is simple:
We will have a special section on the site for local businesses. In our definition, a local business is one that is locally owned, and has something special to offer. It's probably easier to define what is not a local shop than what is. But to start ---
- A local shop is not owned by someone far away
- A local shop is not part of a big chain
- A local shop cares about the community and its sustainability
- A local shop tries to promote local goods - items that are produced in the area.
- A local shop is owned by people you can identify, not a nameless hedge fund or conglomerate
So - who's to judge? Well, for the time being at least, our editors and staff. And of course you - if you know of a business that meets these criteria, let us know, and we'll be glad to feature them in the guide.

Computer Bargains
Submitted by Steve Hanson on Mon, 10/01/2007 - 17:36We don't just give you the latest that is happening in the Chippewa Valley - we can save you money too.
We have a continuously updated listing of technology bargains that you can buy from Tiger Direct through our site. Many of these are exclusive bargain prices with the Chippewa Guide. For example, you can currently buy a DVD player for $9, or a 400 GByte hard drive for $89. This is high-quality fully-guaranteed equipment. We always have a listing on the Technology Page, or you can just go here to see all of the bargains.

Add Your Business
Submitted by Steve Hanson on Sat, 03/03/2007 - 19:02There are several reasons your business should be listed in the Chippewa Guide. The guide is an integrated listing of businesses in the Chippewa Valley. Listing your own business in the guide will make your business more visible on the Internet, and in a central place people will look to for information on the Chippewa Valley. The Chippewa Guide is highly optimized for search engines, and many companies find that our listings perform better than their own web sites. You should be listed in the Chippewa Guide even if you have your own web site (you can link your listing here to your own site) as it provides one more path to information about your company, and you can't have too many. A Chippewa Guide listing will help your business be heard above the general noise level of the Internet.
Chippewa Guide has two kinds of listings for businesses and organizations (restaurants and bars are special and treated differently). Adding any business listing on the site requires filling out a registration form for the site, after which you may add any number of free business listings. You may edit your own business listing at any time.
Free listings include your business/organization name, business category, driving directions, phone number, and web address.

Sure, I hear you - You're more than a little confused. If you need help, this is the place to start. The Chippewa Guide is just starting up, so please bear with us during some of the growing pains.

If you have something to say about your favorite restaurant, or business, you can go ahead and say it. Likewise, if you are a business or organization, we'd like to include a listing for you in the Chippewa Guide. And for free.
